Day 63: Alejandro Sandoval
My ultimate goal as a realist portrait painter is to be able to paint my subject’s soul, to portray not just their external, physical reality but their internal reality as well. I would like my portraits to show a truth about my subjects and something about who they are beyond the outer surface.
Therefore, I continue to train in the technical skills offered by the French academic painting tradition because I know that I must be able to portray the external reality with great skill in order to get to the internal. I still feel that I have much to learn in terms of reflecting the visual experience accurately and effectively via drawing and painting.
My plans for futurudy include continuing to train with my private instructor/painting mentor in San Francisco, Kevin Wueste. I plan to study at the Ryder School in New Mexico for a minimum of three months, to study at Angel Academy in Italy for a minimum of three months, and to spend a total of six to eight months copying works at museums,
