Day 307 Steve Shirley

"The fairest thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the fundemental emotion which stands at the cradle of true art and true science. He who knows it not and can no longer wonder, no longer feel amazement, is as good as dead, a snuffed out candle."....Albert Einstein

Steve Shirley is a self taught artist born in Niles, Michigan  spending most of his childhood with images of Lake Michigan, surrounding farms and forests, and the beautiful St. Joe River.
He began art and music early as a child. As an aspiring songwriter and performer, he spent a few years in Europe traveling and performing. When he returned to the USA he played as a solo artist in Chicago and throughout the midwest. He relocated to Los Angeles in 1980 and continued performing for the next few years.
Painting mostly watercolors in the early 90s in Los Angeles, he had his first professional showings and sales.
His pieces in acrylic and oil produce a soothing experience blending color and light. His pieces are purely from imagination and not in reference to geographical locations. Although he frequents images of his youth in his work, his paintings lean more toward places he would like to be rather than places he has been.
He refers to his paintings as "Mindscapes".
