My name is Marcia Droz. I am a woman, artist, and teacher. These are labels I have explored in my artwork. This year I found balance within by exploring figurative painting on the subject of relationships between men and women. My art is influenced by other artists and teachers, including an education in drawing and painting from the University of Arizona. I love the art of historical American Modernists, art with bold line, shape, and color. I love the sketchy nature of work like the more contemporary German painter, Scheibitz, in which one sees the artistic process. I like the personal or private marks left by the artist. I love unfinished work.
I work as a teacher of drawing and painting at a therapeutic art studio in Phoenix. I myself struggle with depression and have always known the therapeutic effect of making art. This particular series on men and women is part of my own search for reflection upon intimacy and love.
