As an individual I am Rudy Dawahoya Jr. who hails from the Indigenous Nations of the Hopi,
Akimel O'Odham and Tohono O'Odham. Where I come from lies within the Great State of
Arizona also known by many as the Southwest. I take from where I live and it's surrounding areas,
cultures, lives for whatever intrigues me to derive art from. I love being a part of art, within art, and
enveloped inart. I use my traditional, religious background to involve what I seek to interpret in my own
creations. If I were to categorize my art, it would be contemporary evolved traditional art. It is who I am
and I take all forms of art medium to make that a reality. From what I know I have been encased inside
the art world since I was in 3rd grade transforming my time into the present. Where I've been has been
a major impact on my life starting late in life,as far as furthering my education goes, at the Institute of
American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico. There I found new love for my cultural settings in life and
nurture that with newfound materials. My decision to move on to Northern Arizona University was to gain
something else I've never known. I found new skills and have used those to enhance everything I create. I
look forward to my near future at the possibility of where it will take me, both educationally and into the
realms of art.
