Day 134: Maria Varga-Hansen (Vargamari)

Short bio and artist statement of Vargamari

My name is Maria Varga-Hansen, a.k.a. Vargamari, was born in Hungary and lived there, and in Austria from 1988 - 2008.
In 2009 I moved to the USA, married (to John Hansen, a.k.a. Wiscojaydub, who is an excellent digital artist), and have been living and working in Racine, Wisconsin.
Since June 2015 we had moved to Arizona and became permanent residents in Sun City.

My life is all about art: first as an actress, then textile-designer and hand-weaver, and the last 28 years as a self-taught fine art painter, working by different mediums such as watercolor, oil, pastel, ink and, last but not least, my favorite medium: encaustic.

I had several exhibitions in Europe and my works are in different private collections, also in Canada.
I held painting classes for thousands of children in Austria and also for adults, in watercolor and in encaustic. I offer classes in the USA as well.

Only some words about my artistic concept:
I want to express myself, my love, my dreams, my life-experience through all of my works and showing something positive to the viewer...I think there is enough trouble and "dark things" in everybody's life; the duty of an artist to lead the viewer away from all of them, giving some hope...but trying not to be too “sweet”! I try to keep my very strong, critical view towards my own works, too.
In my 28 years of painting experience, I went through all different learning phases. I'm always trying to develop my own style without joining any “isms”…
I'm painting always a bit differently, leading by the medium and the theme. Though in every way, I try to show something warm, human and positive...
