Because of my training, I tend to see photography as painting – starting with an awareness of the flatness, the surface, from which all pictures issue. I favor pictures that recognize a tension between compositional flatness, patterns or conflicting space and the depicted. Photography and pictures should comment on or reenact perception itself, rather than serve only as documentation. I believe it’s part of my training that places the acting visual forces in a photograph on a par with, or superseding, what happens to be documented. I live in Phoenix, AZ and have been taking photographs fairly regularly for the last 4 yrs.
